Who comes to your house on a junk removal job

By the Hero’s team · September 2026 · 7 min read

The people who show up on a Hero's job are Todd's own crew. Todd owns the company, he is a military veteran, and he still works the jobs. His son Nash runs it with him. The rest are people they hired and kept. Nobody gets dispatched to your house off an app that morning.

That sounds like a small distinction until you remember what you are actually agreeing to when you book junk removal. You are letting two or three strangers walk through your living room, up your stairs, and into the room where you keep everything you have not decided about yet.

The part nobody puts on their website

Most of this industry runs on subcontractors and day labor. A call center takes your booking, a dispatch system pushes the job to whoever is closest and available, and the truck that pulls into your driveway belongs to a person the company you called has never met in person.

That model exists because it scales fast and it is cheap to run. It works fine when the job is a couch already sitting at the end of a driveway.

It works less well the moment the job is inside the house. Interior work is where the difference shows up, because interior work needs judgment and not just muscle. Somebody has to decide which end of the dresser goes first at the turn in the stairwell, and somebody has to notice that the box marked kitchen has a wedding album in it.

We keep our own crew because we send people into bedrooms, closets, attics and garages, and because the people who own the company are on the jobs. Todd started this with one trailer. He is not sitting in an office watching a dispatch board.

Why it matters most on the hard jobs

Some jobs are just hauling. Yard debris at the curb, a shed frame already down, a stack of boxes in the garage. Those go the same way no matter who does them.

Then there are the other ones.

An estate cleanout is somebody's parent's house, usually within a few weeks of a funeral. Half the job is carrying and half of it is knowing when to stop and ask. We walk the estate cleanout checklist with families for exactly that reason, and the single most important rule on it is that the family does the paperwork pass before we touch anything.

A hoarding job is a health situation and a private one. So is downsizing a parent who did not want to move. So is clearing a bedroom after a divorce.

You cannot staff those out of a gig app that morning. Not because the workers are bad people, but because nobody briefed them, nobody will see them again, and there is no relationship to protect. Ours have to come back to the same suburbs next week and see the same neighbors.

Ask any junk removal company one question: who is actually coming. Employees or subcontractors, and have they worked for you before. A company that sends its own people will answer plainly. If the answer is vague, that is your answer. The BBB tracks how this goes wrong across home services in its home improvement scam study, and the Texas Attorney General keeps general consumer protection guidance for when a home service job goes sideways.

What we will and will not claim

We are going to be straight about this, because the easy move here is to imply more than we can back up.

What is true: it is Todd's crew, they work for Hero's, the owner is on the jobs, and it is the same faces rather than a rotating roster. That is the whole difference, and it is a real one.

What we are not going to claim: we are not going to invent a certification, a badge, or a screening program to put in a graphic. Other companies do that. We would rather tell you exactly what the arrangement is and let you decide.

We are haulers. Not appraisers, not estate attorneys, not remediation contractors. When a job needs one of those, we say so instead of taking the money.

How a pickup actually runs

Here is the shape of it from your side of the door.

You tell us what you have. Photos help more than descriptions. A picture of the room answers questions a paragraph cannot.

A crew looks at it in person. They walk the job, and you get a firm number before anything is lifted. Disposal is included in it. The quote is the bill.

You point, we carry. You do not need to move anything to the curb first, and you do not need to help. Interior pickup is the normal case, not an upgrade.

We sweep. The spot where the thing was gets cleaned up before we leave. That is the part people notice.

If you want the full list of what goes on the trailer and what stays behind, that is written out in what junk removal will and will not take. The timing side of it, and what typical actually means when someone says same-day, is covered in same-day junk removal.

The one thing we will not carry out

Household hazardous waste stays with you. Paint, motor oil, gasoline, propane tanks, pool chemicals, solvents, anything with a corrosive or flammable label. That is not us being difficult, it is that those materials are regulated and a general hauler is not the right destination for them.

The good news is the free route is genuinely free. Most cities here run a household chemical collection program that takes this stuff at no charge from residents, and Plano publishes its schedule and accepted list at household chemical collection. Neighboring cities run the same kind of program. We will point you at yours.

Everything else, if two people can lift it and it is not hazardous, is fair game. Furniture, appliances, mattresses, electronics, hot tubs, sheds, brush, construction debris, a whole garage, a whole house.

We run pickups seven days a week across Plano, Allen, Frisco, McKinney, Richardson, Little Elm, Prosper, The Colony, Wylie and Fairview. Call before noon and the same afternoon is typical, though typical is the honest word rather than a promise. Tell us what you have and we will quote it before anything moves.

Frequently asked questions

Are your crews employees or subcontractors?

Our own people. Todd owns the company and works the jobs, his son Nash runs it with him, and the crew is hired and kept rather than dispatched off an app.

Do I have to be home during the pickup?

For an interior job, somebody should be there to point at what goes and approve the number. Curbside piles are easier to handle without you standing there, but tell us that when you book.

Do you carry things out of the house, or does it have to be at the curb?

We carry it out. Upstairs, attic, garage, back bedroom. You do not need to move anything first and you do not need to help.

Will you go through boxes or sort things for me?

We do not open or sort personal belongings. Do the paperwork and keepsake pass yourself first, then point us at what goes. On estate jobs that pass is the most important step of the whole day.

What if I decide partway through that I want to keep something?

Say so and it comes back off. Nothing is final until it is loaded, and there is no rush on our end.

If you want to know who is coming before you book, ask us. The rest of what we haul is on the services page.
